Team Top Kart USA rolled into New Jersey Motorsports Park in full swing. The top team in the nation continued its domination in the Junior categories while it returned to form in TaG Sr.
Kyle Wiegand after struggling all year returned to the pace that everyone knows he has. In TaG Sr. Kyle led the way for the team all weekend with qualifying second, finishing second in all three heats, and finishing third in the Prefinal after having to come back from an on track incident. Neil McCoy rebounded from a rough start of the weekend to win the Prefinal followed by Neil Alberico. In the final McCoy took the early lead, but Wiegand would soon take the point. As the laps wound down it turned into a three kart battle for win. Unfortunately the Top Kart drivers lost out on the battle with Wiegand finished second and McCoy in third who is also now the championship leader. Neil Alberico finished fifth followed by Nigel Saurino in sixth. Chris Wehrheim had a rough weekend battling flu like symptoms Saturday and Sunday. In the end Chris finished fifth in the final and is looking to return to the front at CalSpeed.
Taylor Miinch was the man of the weekend taking home both the TaG Jr. and KF3 Final victories. First up was KF3, after running in second the entire race Taylor pulled off one of the most impressive passes all season to take home the victory. In TaG Jr., Taylor and Raquel Martinez led the way for the team by qualifying one-two. Tyler Thomas as always was close behind in seventh. In the heats Miinch and Martinez would both win a heat race. In the Final, Miinch turned fast lap after fast lap to pull away from the field; Martinez unfortunately was involved in an accident on the first lap, a disappointing finish for the young driver who looked to be in position to grab her first podium in the category. Thomas ran a great race to score another top five finish, which puts him atop the standings. Mason Chelootz once again had a strong top ten results in eighth.
Local driver, Ryan Raffa burst on to the National karting scene by taking pole position in Cadet. Three different Top Kart drivers, Josh Saurino, Santino Ferrucci, and Ryan Raffa all took their time at the front won all the three heats. In the end Raffa came home with the Final victory followed by Josh Saurino. Zane Smith recovered after a huge incident to finish fourth.
Next up for the team is the WKA Maufacturer’s Cup at Road America July 10-12. Chris Wehrheim and Derek Sobel will be representing the team. For more information please visithttp://www.grandproducts.com
