October 26, 2007 Stars Finale Review

Las Vegas, NV. - Coming into the Stars of Karting Finale Team Top Kart USA drivers were in the title hunt in all classes but ICA. 2007 has been a great season for the small team that continues to impress.

First up was the Cadet category where Tyler Thomas, Jacob Will and Camden Geise were all title contenders. Luis Tyrrell led the group with a sixth place in qualifying, Thomas followed in eighth, Camden Geise in ninth, and Will in fourteenth. Tyler Thomas would have a great set of heats with a win in the final heat. This would put him on pole for both Finals. Thomas would show what he has shown all year that he is one of the best cadet drivers in the country; he would do this in convincing fashion taking both final victories. Geise would show strong once again with a fourth in Final One and tenth in Final Two. Luis Tyrrell finished seventh and sixteenth while Will finished fifteenth and tenth.

Conor Daly and Adam Johnson came into the weekend sitting second and third in the Spec Racer championship. Neil McCoy who was one of the fastest karts all weekend long at Moran would have to battle hard because of the starting position penalty incurred from not running enough races. Daly grabbed pole but would run into trouble in third heat race after finishing third and first in heats one and two. This would give him a seventh starting spot. Both Daly and Johnson would move up from their starting positions to finish fourth and sixth. McCoy unfortunately ran into problems and did not finish. Final two would not fare well with both Daly and Johnson struggling to get off the grid. This would ruin both their title hopes. McCoy though would have a great run and lead part of the race and finish seventh.

Kartel Motorsports and Brendan Phinny have been showing the speed of the Top Kart all season long and was joined by the newest member of the team Taylor Miinch. Brendan qualified pole with his teammate in hand in third. The two drivers would dominate heats with Phinny taking all three wins. These finishes would give the Swedetech powered Top Karts the front row. Final One would not fair for the duo, but Final Two would be much better. Brendan would jump out to the early lead, but would fall back to finish fifth. Taylor had a great debut with the team and finished second. Look for these two drivers to be the main title contenders in the 2008 season.

Matt Jaskol has been tearing up the track all year long in Stars while Kyle Wiegand made his return to the series after having a great season in WKA. Jaskol would have to miss practice for a stock car race in California. Wiegand qualified sixth but would be involved in incidents in two of the three heat races. Jaskol qualified thirteen and ran in the top ten. Final one was difficult for both drivers finishing out of the top ten, but the second final would be different. Kyle would drive through the back to finish sixth and Jaskol would have a great finish in ninth considering his first time on the track was Saturday morning.
